SELETE Acquires Licenses for
March 23, 1999 (Pleasanton, CA) Wright Williams & Kelly (WWK) announced that Semiconductor Leading Edge Technologies, Incorporated (SELETE), the Japanese IC industry's 300mm wafer research organization, has acquired licenses for WWK's Factory Commander® cost and resource evaluation software. The software will be installed in SELETE's headquarters in Yokohama, Japan for use in evaluating the projected costs and revenues of operating a 300mm wafer fab.
According to Mr. Kenichi Kawashima, Director General Manager of SELETE, "The transition to 300mm is the most costly transition ever for the IC industry. We needed a measurement system to help us understand the profitability of such a venture. We have been using WWK's TWO COOL® cost of ownership software for the past two years to help drive down equipment costs. We now need to integrate this work into a total factory view. Factory Commander® is the right system at the right time. We are committed to using Factory Commander® as the key metric to ensure cost effective production of semiconductor devices at 300mm. We believe that this approach will be both beneficial and a requirement for IC manufacturers and the equipment and material suppliers."
"We are very pleased that SELETE, the world's largest 300mm research consortium, has aggressively adopted Factory Commander® as their factory productivity measurement tool," states David Jimenez, WWK's Vice President and General Manager. "Since both SELETE and their counterparts at the International 300mm Initiative (I300I) standardized on TWO COOL® several years ago, we believe that SELETE's forwarding looking use of Factory Commander® indicates it may become the de facto standard for 300mm factory cost modeling."
